— Gender is either the male or female division of a species, especially as differentiated by social and cultural roles and behaviour.  Based on the text ‘ Human beings : An engendered Species’ gender is defined as not simply a system of classification, by which a biological males and biological females are sorted, separated and socialized into equivalent sex roles. Gender also expresses the near-universal inequality between women and men. When gender is involved, we are also talking about hierarchy, power and inequality. I completely agree with the fact that the social institutions of our world like workplace, family, school and politics are also gendered. I notice that even today women are seen as inferior to men. For instance, it is rare to see a woman in politics because society think that women are incapable of handling political decisions and debates and that is it necessary for a men to be dominating. Even in cultures, boys and girls are raised differently. Boys are taught to do sports and be strong while girls on the other side, are taught to wear dresses, skirts and are perceived as being more sensitive than boys. In the short text ‘ Difference and Domination : Individual in a Gendered Society, the author mentions that individual boys and girls become gendered, more precisely that we, individually, choose which behaviours and traits are associated with either masculinity or femininity.

I personally find it unfair that both genders are ‘obligated’ to do things in order to fit in society because if they do not do accordingly, they will be seen as weird or not normal. Males and females have free will and have the freedom of doing whatever they want. Females like males should have the same amount of opportunities in all social  institutions and should not be seen as not capable as doing their jobs because of their gender.
